What is an example of somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy also involves learning how to calm or discharge that stress, tension and trauma. These techniques can include breathing exercises, dance, mindfulness and other body movement techniques.
Where is trauma stored in the body?
Trauma is not physically held in the muscles or bones — instead, the need to protect oneself from perceived threats is stored in the memory and emotional centers of the brain, such as the hippocampus and amygdala. This activates the body whenever a situation reminds the person of the traumatic event(s).
How to do somatic release?
Place your hand on the area that has experienced a shift or change, and breath deeply. If it's an overall feeling, you can simply place your hands on your heart. Doing this allows the body to process the somatic experience, and creates a passageway to release the tension.

Somatic therapy operates off the idea that what happens to you in your life is stored not only in your mind but also in your body. By focusing on both the physical sensations in your body and the discussion of your problems, it is a comprehensive approach to therapy.

They include:
• rolfing - a technique of deep tissue manipulation aimed at the release and realignment of the body, and the reduction of muscular and psychic tension.
• Body-Mind Centering - “Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) is an ongoing, experiential journey into the alive and changing territory of the body. The explorer is the mind – our thoughts, feeling, energy, soul and spirit. Thought this journey we are led to an understanding of how the mind is expressed thought the body in movement.
• Alexander technique - The Alexander technique is a method of rediscovering natural balance and poise through thinking in activity. It is not an exercise regime. All our movements should be gentle, using only the appropriate amount of muscular energy. a system of body awareness designed to promote well-being by ensuring minimum effort in maintaining postures and carrying out movements.
• Feldenkrais method - learning from within Definition of the Feldenkrais Method. The Feldenkrais Method is a somatic practice (meaning “learning from within”) that teaches students that movement is based on meaningful intention and awareness, as noted by a systematic review published in 2015 in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
• Laban movement analysis - Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is a method and language for describing, visualizing, interpreting and documenting all varieties of human movement.
